With Baotou meaning “place with deer” in Mongolia Language, Baotou is called deer city, nearly 30,000 square km in total area, has jurisdiction over 9 banners, counties and areas, 43 nationalities including Meng, Han, Hui, Man and etc., 2.4 million population, of which 1.58 million population in city and town. The Yinshan Mountain traverses the middle part of it. It was one of 13 national larger cities first specified by State Council in 1984. Baotou has advantages in rich nature resource, such as farmous Baiyunebo mineral resource with 75% rare-earth reserves in the world, iron, gold, copper and others more than 50 kinds of metal and nonmetal mineral resource. There are 230 billion tons coal reserve in Baotou and its periphery areas. Moreover, it was awarded to be the one of civilization city in our country in 2005 and environment protection prize—Green East in 2006.

Baotou National Ecological Industry (Aluminum) Demonstration Park
Baotou National Ecological Industry (Aluminum) Demonstration Park, Daqingshan in the north and Yellow River in the south, is located in Baotou City Donghe District. It was the national ecological industrial parks approved to build formally by State Environments Protection General Bureau in April 2003; total planned area is 20 km2. With circulating economy and ecological industry theory and taking “aluminum electric joint” as core, aluminum industry as leading, power plant as base, develop related industries such as power, electrolytic aluminum, deep processing of aluminum, aluminum alloy casting and construction material. Industry ecology chain has been formed by interchanging of products, finished products and waste materials produced in all enterprises of the park, this makes the park’s resource get optimized configuration, and waste material get efficient recovering and utilization, minimize environment pollution and greatly improve economical efficiency, realize area economic rapid development at last. Since ecology industry park is one of 4 projects over 10 billion in Baotou, it keeps reforming, optimizing management system and running system, perfecting service system and making good investment conditions during building. Baotou Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd (Baotou Aluminum for short), one of the top ten Chinese smelters, is the biggest aluminum alloy production base in China, and the only Chinese company that adopt segregation technology to produce high purity aluminum as well. The company’s predecessor is Baotou smelter established in 1958, in June 2003, the company has been merged into Chinalco. Its stock (600472) has been listed on Shanghai Stock Exchange in May 2005. By 2007 end, Baotou Aluminum Group with over 8,000 staff and a covered area of 4.49 million square meters, whose total assets including 5 branches and 8 subsidiaries, have reached 4.9 billion RMB.
The company owns two brands: Baolv and BTL. The main products include aluminum ingot, 6063 alloy, A356 alloy, slab, high purity aluminum and etc.
The company has gotten certificates of ISO9001: 2000, ISO/TS16949, ISO14001, NQA, QS9000, ISO/IEC17025, ISO10012 and GB/T2800-2001. These certificates have helped Baotou Aluminum to expand international market.
During the 11th Five-Year-Plan period, the company has carried out capacity expansion project, which will enable the primary capacity reach 550 kt, alloy and semis 450 kt, carbon products 320 kt and power capacity 600 MW.
